Summary of Duties:

Independently performs routine laboratory tests, processes samples, orders tests in VADDS (medical database system), and sets up microbiologic assays for the detection of pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and parasites. Distribution of samples//test materials to the respective laboratories after processing. Performance of other routine laboratory maintenance duties such as making of reagents, restocking supplies, etc. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.


Required Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program including courses in chemistry and biology OR completion of a course for laboratory assistants, approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, may be substituted for two years of the required experience OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Ability to work 9 am to 6 pm if necessary.

  • Rotate on weekend duty/holidays as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years work experience in a microbiology lab.

  • Familiarity with veterinary medicine;

  • Experience with medical or laboratory database.

  • Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens.
