Summary of Duties:

The IT Support Technician 2 works under the supervision of the IT Director for IREACH

The incumbent provides for IREACH faculty and staff primary desktop support including hardware and software, user accounts, and permissions. Performs diagnosis and resolution of hardware issues. Performs support for connection and provision of telephone systems. Assigns and disables user roles and security groups. Works with WSU IT on behalf of IREACH end users to diagnose and resolve user hardware or systems issues. The position requires the use of independent actions, use of judgment, and specific knowledge or experience in technical specialty to complete IT assignments.  

Essential Duties

Helpdesk Support and Workstation Hardware Support - 50%

  • Provides up to tier 2 support for IREACH IT tickets submitted by faculty and staff pertaining to workstations, user accounts, access and permissions.
  • Installs, updates, and configures software for users and provides training on the basic use of the software. 
  • Performs basic diagnosis and resolution of hardware issues, including driver updates, and schedules work as directed to resolve warranty work. 
  • Tracks, changes, programs, and installs workstations, computers, printers, peripherals and related software and driver and image desktops. 

User Onboarding and Orientation - 15%

  • Supports new user computer imaging and providing an overview of features.
  • Provides a basic tour of IT services.

Network and Telecommunications - 10%

  • Connects and provisions VOIP phones based on the established procedure. 
  • Monitors, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and escalates application, network, and server-related issues per procedure.

User Management - 10%

  • Creates and disables users in Active Directory and Azure AD.
  • Assigns and removes user roles and security groups.
  • Performs user audits on a project-based schedule.
  • Connects IREACH end-users to university-supported resources. 

File Share and Access Management - 5%

  • Creates and manages file shares based on established security protocols.

Sharepoint Administration - 5%

  • Assists project team to build and maintain their SharePoint sites using established SharePoint Governance procedures. 
  • Provides SharePoint end-user support and training; escalates when appropriate.

Other - 5%

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Two (2) years of experience in information technology-related activities such as testing, installing, maintaining, supporting, and/or averting hardware/software system failures on client applications, hardware and software products, mainframe systems, network infrastructure equipment, or telecommunications software or hardware OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve workstation and mobile issues (Windows 10, MacOS, iPhone, Android, Office)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience providing quality customer service.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in IT and Network Administration or related field. 
  • User administration of a common directory service (Active Directory, LDAP, Apple Open Directory).
  • Experience with file share access and administration.
  • Experience with SharePoint administration for SharePoint 2013 or above.
