Summary of Duties:
As a senior level specialist, the functions of this position are to lead on the development, installation, monitoring and troubleshooting of the WSU statewide voice and data networks. Position works with expert level network designers and engineers to ensure enterprise VoIP system operates seamlessly across all WSU entities. This position is responsible to provide strategic design recommendations, day-to-day support, proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and consulting for all aspects of the University statewide VoIP system. This includes on premise VoIP infrastructure support as well as coordination, assistance, operations, and configuration of cloud provided VoIP services. This position also functions to service the expansion/growth of the WSU VoIP network to support an overall transition to a WSU statewide unified communications platform with significant portion being cloud based. Provide expertise in on-premise and cloud based administration, planning, and configuration for major VoIP systems to include Presence, Voice Gateways, Voicemail, and local PBX administration. Independently perform software upgrades on existing equipment and provide end-user training when needed. Similar responsibilities working with HP & Cisco backbone and edge network electronics in support of wired and wireless network services will exist.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a related technology field plus six years of information technology experience; OR equivalent education/experience
Minimum 3 years professional experience in provisioning and managing voice/data services in large scale network infrastructure.
Technical certification with analog /digital voice systems and Ethernet and wide area networks, or equivalent experience/training.
Working knowledge of standards associated with telecommunications industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of system and station operations and services associated with a digital pbx system.
Working knowledge of data network infrastructures and supporting edge electronics.
Knowledge of Cisco and HP hardware and software.
Experience configuring wireless network appliances.
Experience in working with Virtual LAN’s.
Working knowledge of network protocols, specifically layers 1-3.
