Summary of Duties:

Washington State University seeks driven and motivated human resource professional to serve as a skilled HR Consultant for assigned colleges, areas, and departments on the WSU Spokane campus.

Successful candidates must be ready to thrive in a fast-paced higher education environment.

This position is based on the Spokane campus; however, partial hybrid work will be available.

Serving as a skilled Human Resource Consultant, this position performs professional, Human Resource generalist duties for colleges, areas and departments located on the WSU Spokane campus. Our HR Consultant is responsible for resolving complex/difficult Human Resource issues and plans and carries out work independently with minimal supervision, utilizing knowledge of laws, policies and regulations. Also responsible for prioritizing and managing issues within designated area of responsibility.

As an HR Consultant, you will provide guidance and consultation in all of the following areas: recruitment, classification, compensation, corrective and disciplinary action, training and development, interpretation and application of laws, rules, policies and procedures, appeals, grievances or unemployment hearings, performance management, program or policy development, performance reviews, career counseling, organizational analysis or development, employee recognition or other functions relating to human resource management.
 

Required Qualifications:

  • The minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related area AND three (3) years of professional experience in human resource functions in a formal human resource setting. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.

  • Experience in the following areas: classification, employee relations, and training and development.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully prepare and present policy interpretations and investigation findings and conclusions.

  • A record showing commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the following areas: recruitment, compensation, and labor relations.

  • Experience interpreting or applying labor laws.

  • Experience utilizing a HR Information System.

  • Professional certification from a recognized human resource/personnel association.

  • Human Resource experience in a higher education setting.
