Summary of Duties:

This position conceptualizes, produces, develops, and designs of a variety of original marketing, multi-media projects and graphics materials for the Office of Academic Engagement. Provides professional, creative, and technical assistance to staff. Provides advisement on marketing and advertising techniques and best practices. 

The Office of Academic Engagement operates administratively from Pullman but serves all Washington State University campuses. On-campus office as well as remote work accommodations for this position will be considered.

Job Duties:

Digital and Print Design 50%

  • Create and produce graphic materials using a range of media, methods, techniques, and/or graphic design software to conceptualize, design, and produce original design and layout for brochures, advertisements, newsletters, flyers, posters, web pages, social media supportive design and other marketing material; 

  • Creates and maintains digital advertisement and signage on student area displays, including touch screen directory; 

  • Manipulates digital images, photographs, audio, video and illustrations using a variety of computer software techniques; 

  • Explains to staff the effective use of graphic designs and production costs; offers ideas, suggestions and information on techniques and content as it pertains to getting communications reproduced; 

  • Provides guidance on mailing list preparation; 

  • Designs informational materials, taking into account intended use, audience, cost estimates and distribution and the project’s and department’s goals and objectives; 

  • Produces and packages complex, computer-generated multi-page art for black and white, and color reproduction, using graphic design software such as the Adobe Creative Suite for page layout, illustration, and photo manipulation; 

  • Collaborates with photographers or videographers on photo shoots; operates digital cameras, manipulates and color balances photos; 

  • Assists with video planning activities including research, script development, storyboard illustration, titles, audio editing; provides control room and camera operation assistance.

Web Design 30%

  • Produces, creates and maintains Office of Academic Engagement webpage(s). Offers mock-ups and advisement during preliminary planning; 

  • Creates and codes HTML emails for Office of Academic Engagement communication; 

  • Works in collaboration with partnered departments for upkeeping OAE information;

  • Develops and maintains announcements, event pages, and calendars; 

  • Produces graphics for social media supportive design content.

Project Management 10%

  • Maintains good communication with staff throughout projects, performs preliminary troubleshooting, establishes timetables, specifications, cost estimates, adjust project scopes when necessary due to budget constraints, ensure deadlines are reasonable and met;

  • Maintains project management records, graphic and photographic records, and follows through with staff on project status;

  • Explains to staff the effective use of graphic designs and production costs; offers ideas, suggestions and information on techniques and content as it pertains to getting communications reproduced; 

  • Maintains and reviews copy of materials for proof ready distribution;

  • Ensures compliance with WSU design standards, logo usage and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements;

  • Leads Communication meetings with OAE leadership staff.

Multimedia 5%

  • Create, produce, direct and edit recorded and/or live audio-video footage for use in multi-media projects such as lectures, research documentation, recognition events, and special projects.

Other 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, multi-media, printing technology, or related field AND a minimum of three (3) years full-time experience in concept development and design of high quality promotional materials. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience working with digital publishing software programs including WordPress with knowledge in HTML/CSS and JavaScript. 

  • Experience with commonly used Graphic design software Adobe Creative Suite particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, After Effects and Premiere Pro; Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. 

  • Knowledge of: color theory, design principles and composition, methods and techniques of graphic design; effective application of materials and media.

  • Experience with Adobe XD, Bootstrap, and Sitefinity a plus. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with principles, practices and techniques of digital art, graphic design, layout and illustration. 

  • Familiarity with electronic desktop publishing equipment and techniques. 

  • Experience working in a higher education or similar institutional setting.
