Summary of Duties:

This 12-month, part-time position is a key member of the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources (CSANR) core program coordination and administrative group. The CSANR Extension Coordinator position is responsible for internal grant coordination, communications and outreach, coordinating outreach and advisory events, and other duties as assigned. The CSANR is a complex, “virtual” unit that operates with faculty and staff housed statewide in multiple WSU facilities and involves a diversity of teaching, research, and extension programs funded by federal, state, university and private partnerships. The location of the position is negotiable. This position will develop and maintain relationships with CSANR program faculty and staff, Faculty Leadership Team, CSANR Advisory Committee, university administrative and financial entities, and external partners such as funding agency contacts and key stakeholders.

CSANR Communications and Outreach (40%)

  • CSANR maintains a web-based publications library to provide public accessibility to research and extension product content produced by CSANR programs and affiliated faculty, staff, and students. This database is our primary repository of available technical information to serve stakeholders.  
  • CSANR Annual Report. CSANR produces an annual report featuring programs, projects, and activities for public review. This position will coordinate the development and promotion of the report.
  • This position will coordinate CSANR’s social media platforms and the Perspectives on Sustainability  blog and network with other partners within and outside of WSU to promote CSANR’s programs and outputs.
  • This position will contribute to the development and editing of extension curriculum and products.

Internal Grants Coordination (25%)

  • CSANR manages three internal grants programs (BIOAg, WSARE PDP, Kaiser Conservation Endowment) to distribute funds for research, extension, professional development, and outreach to faculty, staff, students, and agricultural professionals. Under the direction of the CSANR Director, this position will coordinate the announcement of available funds and solicitation of proposals, review process, award notification, reporting processes and maintains the CSANR Grants Database. This will include annual compilation of impact statistics and metrics.

Outreach and Advisory Events (20%)

  • CSANR hosts periodic advisory committee meetings to gather input and priorities for future research and extension programs, projects and investments. This position will help coordinate the meeting planning and execution.
  • This position will coordinate the CSANR biennial BIOAg Research Symposium and periodically other public outreach events. 

Other Duties (15%)

  • Other duties include professional development, support for grant proposal submission, committee service, and other periodic projects.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills, collaborative skills with academic professionals, support staff, and diverse internal constituencies, and good decision-making and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to take on new responsibilities and work effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity.

  • Professional experience in program coordination and/or project management. 

  • Proficiency in computer software such as desktop and web publishing and database management techniques.

  • Event planning, coordination and execution experience.
