Summary of Duties:

Performs journey-level work installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining electrical circuits and systems throughout the WSU Health Sciences campus. Responsible for investigating, troubleshooting, and testing. Additional responsibilities include installing, programming, and maintaining access control systems, security equipment, and fabricating items related to electrical systems, and a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities, systems, and equipment.

Essential Duties:

Electrical : 60%

  • Install, repair, replace, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical circuits, equipment, interior and exterior lighting, switches, receptacles, breakers, fuses, motors, drives, circuit boards, timers, photocells, relays, clock controls, security access controls, actuators,  batteries, surge suppression, UPS systems, and emergency lighting in accordance with local, state, and federal code guidelines.
  • Test and maintain electrical backup generators. 
  • Test and record data on electrical switch gear to meet requirements for arc flash reports. 
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and repair all campus control systems.
  • Utilize work order management software to manage assigned work orders and communicate job progress, delays, or updates; record work order expenses such as labor hours and stock materials, update notes with relevant information, and other relevant data entry.  

Access Control, Automated Lighting, and Video Surveillance Systems: 20%

  • Install, program, maintain, and troubleshoot access control systems, integrated building lighting controls, and all associated elements
  • Install, repair, and maintain video surveillance equipment and associated wiring. Pull and route ethernet cable to install new or modify IT network infrastructure.

Fabrication and Carpentry: 10%

  • Create, modify, adapt, or alter items related to electrical (switch cover boxes, access panels, illuminated signs, retrofits, etc.) as needed.
  • Construct and install small cabinets, shelving, walls, and partitions.
  • Install whiteboards, bulletin boards, display frames, room signs, coat hooks, etc.
  • Adjust and repair doors and windows, repairs carpet, floor tiles, moldings, and ceiling tiles.

Preventative Maintenance for Building Systems: 5%

  • Preventive maintenance of building mechanical HVAC systems, including but not limited to; filter changes, lubrication of bearings and related, belt inspections and changes.                                          
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on building and equipment electrical systems and components to reduce the risk of failure. 
  • Identify, evaluate, and make recommendations related to electrical equipment condition in order to prevent and/or minimize equipment failures and down time.
  • Assist maintenance Manager with general maintenance recordkeeping; create and maintain PM schedules, logs, and records as needed. 

Other: 5 %

  • Perform other duties as assigned that relate to the maintenance, construction and repair of university buildings and equipment to include automotive, and grounds equipment or machinery. 


Required Qualifications:

High school graduation and four years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade; OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • 01 General Journey-level Electrician’s license. 
  • Possession of an unrestricted, valid Driver’s License at time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing all types of electrical systems, to include, but not restricted to: boilers, furnaces, commercial fan systems, pumps, motors, commercial and industrial control systems, breaker panels, distribution panels, power and communication circuits, switches, fuse boxes, wiring, and lighting systems. 
  • Knowledge of arc-flash prevention and the ability to calculate prevention requirements. 
  • Experience installing, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting integrated building lighting controls and all associated elements. 
  • Experience installing, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting access control systems and all associated elements.  
  • Experience installing, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems and information technology systems.
