Summary of Duties:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: provide leadership, direction, and oversight of department’s operations including personnel functions, process development and implementation, content development and execution and other administration functions of the Office of Faculty Development. Position shall have independent oversight for resources, staffing, organizational planning, and representation of department. 
 

This position will support the Office of Faculty Development in the execution of the multiple deliverables for all departments in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine statewide. This includes but is not limited to, the MD program across the regional clinical campuses, academic departments such as Speech and Hearing Sciences, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology and Community and Behavioral Health and supporting the continuum from undergraduate, to graduate, to continuing medical education. 
 

As this is a new position within the College, there are opportunities for continued growth in the position in correlation with expanded functions of the role and/or the Office of Faculty Development. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

45% Area Operations Content Development, Execution, and Delivery

  • Direct the design and delivery of the unit’s faculty development offerings; evaluate and develop recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to plan, design, and create content for faculty development programming; liaison with the Office of Continuing Medical Education as required.
  • Execute development and delivery of content for faculty development.
  • Continuously evaluate and assess program effectiveness and needs; revise program content and delivery as necessary for continued success.
  • Assess technological needs of faculty development programs; make recommendations for the selection of those needs and assist in their tailoring and implementation for programs.
  • Operationalize the deliverables of the Office of Faculty Development; participate in the vison and design of the Office functions.
  • Represent the Office of Faculty Development in lieu of the Associate Dean for Faculty Development when necessary. 
  • Coordinate programming.

25% Program Leadership and Evaluation

  • Propose and implement short- and long-range organizational objectives, policies, and operating procedures. 
  • Seek input from stakeholders regarding programmatic and operational effectiveness. Provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Identify areas of opportunity and develop solutions to address them.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with major constituencies including staff, senior management, academic and non-academic administrators, managers and supervisors, employee organizations, and union representatives.
  • Develop and implement programs in alignment with compliance requirements, including but not limited to bodies such as AAMC and ACGME
  • Develop and establish policies and procedures. 
  • Serve on committees and task forces when participation will enhance the development of and meet the needs of the unit.
  • Implement departmental procedures to streamline and/or automate processes; improve customer service; and improve data management.
  • Provide vision, leadership, and direction for staff development.
  • Participate in the evaluation and maintenance of the unit structure and staffing plan to accomplish the University’s and the unit’s goals and objectives effectively and efficiently.

15% Fiscal Management

  • Assist in the budgeting and fiscal management processes.
  • Develop or assist in the development and management of fiscal and operational strategies, initiatives, and resource management.
  • Recommend options for new approaches and cost-effective services.
  • Develop cost proposals and cost/benefit analysis. 
  • Ensure programming stays within established budget for the Office. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university policies and regulations, while maintaining appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and administer associated agreements.

10% Supervision

  • Provide leadership and management of personnel, ensure compliance with existing University procedures and State law, which includes evaluating staff performance, work allocation, training, corrective and/or disciplinary action, and problem resolution. 
  • Motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Implement and maintain proper personnel practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts.
  • Interview and make hiring recommendations. 

5% Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned 


Required Qualifications:

A Master’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience that has included designing and facilitating learning opportunities for diverse groups, educational assessment, maintaining learning environments and communities (may or may not be technology enhanced), and best practices in teaching and learning.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience with oral presentation, written communication ability and ability to quickly acquire working knowledge of the policies, principles and procedures of the university are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership/management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of policy and program development and in developing and executing short- and long-term plans.
  • Proven ability to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to work independently. 
  • Valid driver license with ability to travel to regional campuses as required. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience at an institution of higher education, preferably in health sciences education.
  • Previous work experience in health services related environments. 
  • Certification in instructional design, educational design or related area from an accredited institution.  
  • Previous experience continuing and/or adult education learning environments. 
  • Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules and regulations.
