Our department

The Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management (DMEM) is internationally leading in bringing together expertise in creative and engineering design, manufacturing and engineering management. Our vibrant research centres and groups focus on product and system development. We research, teach, and knowledge exchange delivering high value design and manufacturing.

Applicants with the following are especially welcomed:

  • Research interests in computationally supported engineering design, including CAD, CAM, simulation and optimisation, e.g. generative design, CAED architecture and AR/VR integration and
  • disciplinary expertise in computational integration of through-life engineering design, data-driven design supported by AI/machine learning, and design product and design process optimisation.

We would love to hear from you if you have a PhD and postdoctoral research experience; an emerging publication history in high quality academic journals; and research interests which align with this area of strategic priority – particularly if you already hold an external fellowship that can be transferred to us.

* Your Fellowship will normally be at lecturer level = assistant professor (exceptionally, at senior lecturer = associate professor where you have a strong track record in research leadership) for 5 years, with the expectation that you’ll meet our promotion criteria within that period and be transferred to senior lecturer (or, where you’ve been appointed as a senior lecturer, Reader) level.
