Summary of Duties:

With guidance and under general supervision from sp3nw leadership, the Business Management Consultant will engage and consult with stakeholders to coordinate and implement sp3nw programs and operational objectives. The position will also report outcomes of the engagements.
 

Initially these efforts will be focused on US Economic Development Administration (EDA) funded Flexible Infrastructure for Resilient Entrepreneurship (FIRE) elements:

  • Executive Advisors and Review Team Honorarium (EARTH) -  a modified executive-in-residence program that matches startups with incentivized executive advisors for 10 months to provide business insights and expedite go-to-market actions;
  • Internship Consultants for Entrepreneurs (ICE) – student teams that provide wrap-around services in marketing, bookkeeping and business research to accelerate startup growth and create high-quality workers;
  • Rural Angel Investment Network (RAIN) – establishes a directory of funding opportunities, assess regional funding gaps, and trains local investment groups to develop funding for early-stage businesses to bridge the funding gap prior to SBIR/STTR funding 


This position will need to drive occasionally to attend offsite meetings with stakeholders, as well as events.

Essential Duties:

Basic Startup Ecosystem Engagement and Advising:  35%

  • Engages and recruits entrepreneurs, mentors, service providers and other stakeholders into sp3nw activities and programs.
  • Counsels entrepreneurs and startup teams on the development of life science startup businesses. 
  • Identifies and evaluates startup challenges and opportunities and facilitates introductions and  inclusion with sp3nw programs and mentors and/or ecosystem programs.
  • Guides and mentors startups in business plan and operating plan development for marketing, management and/or grant/funding proposals.
  • Collaborates with ecosystem partners to optimize exposure for sp3nw program offerings, create partnerships, and leverage available best practices.

Program Operations Management:  35%

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the sp3nw. 
  • Develops and implements sp3nw programming, including virtual, hybrid, and in-person events, academic/internship collaborations through booking meeting space, creating online events, coordinating vendor services (i.e. catering, AV, and transportation) and creating physical and digital collateral.
  • Attends meetings for program strategic development, coalition building and partner collaboration.
  • Represents sp3nw by attending events and being active in the local startup community.
  • Establishes communication between entrepreneurs, mentors, partners, and sp3nw portfolio companies.
  • Track metrics and identify trends associated with sp3nw programs and initiatives.
  • Contributes to sp3nw online presence (website and social media). 
  • Invites and coordinates presenters; develops meeting resources and builds presentation decks.

Data Management and Reporting:  25%

  • Assesses software options to identify appropriate software for aggregating and analyzing operational activities, events, programs, stakeholders and interactions.
  • Evaluates and catalogues data and identify/develop tools for automatic data aggregation.
  • Determine metrics associated with sp3nw portfolio startup companies, grant reporting, programs and operational goals.
  • Assures data analysis and collaborates reporting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute strategic insights gleaned from interacting with the data.
  • Develop and facilitate data collection surveys/opportunities for stakeholders.
  • Analyze data sets to inform and contribute to marketing, social media, and other communications. 

Other: 5%

  • Perform other job-related duties as needed. 


Required Qualifications:

Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and two (2) years of experience in business ownership, business management and/or program development. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. These positions may require additional licenses or certifications.
