COVID-19 Vaccine Information:
In accordance with Washington State Governor’s Proclamation 21-14.1, as a condition of employment, all WSU employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved medical/religious accommodation no later than October 18, 2021. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving their last shot in a vaccine series. Vaccine or an approved accommodation for new employees will be verified no later than October 18, 2021. If the effective date of appointment is October 18, 2021 or later vaccine or approved accommodation status will be verified prior to first day of employment. Summary of Duties:
The Assistant Professor will actively engage in outreach and collaboration with agricultural animal producers and employees, industry stakeholders, government representatives, veterinary practitioners, and the statewide network of Extension educators. Outreach may include small and large group meetings throughout the state, on-farm programs, and development of new outreach media. An important element of these activities is outcome and impact assessment. These Extension programs will intersect with the faculty member’s research and support on-going collaborative agricultural animal health research in the CVM and the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). The successful applicant will serve as an important liaison between agricultural animal industries and food animal veterinary professionals.
The faculty member will actively engage in scholarly pursuits in collaboration with other faculty in the CVM and CAHNRS, focusing on agricultural animal health research and field disease investigation. These pursuits include participation as a collaborative and lead scientist on projects within the priority areas intersecting food animal production, food systems, and society. These areas may include but are not restricted to safe food, antimicrobial resistance, animal health and well-being, and food system assessment; applied, collaborative, and multi-disciplinary research is expected. Obtaining extramural support for collaborative applied research, preferably at the population level, is expected, as is engagement of professional and graduate students in these activities.
The faculty member will actively engage in the education and training mission of VCS and the CVM. This encompasses clinical instruction in the professional DVM program, graduate student training, and potential for instruction in the undergraduate curriculum. These activities are expected to be shared assignments and the level of involvement in these activities will depend on the instructional needs of the college.

Outreach outcomes are centered on the delivery of practical programs to constituent animal agriculture groups, online resources, courses, publication of peer-reviewed articles on applied research, and distribution of a quarterly newsletter to veterinarians, producers, Extension educators, 4-H participants, and industry stakeholders.
