Summary of Duties:

This is for multiple, full-time tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering, mentor diverse students, develop collaborative research, establish an externally funded research program, and publish scholarly work.

Candidates with research interests in all areas of Mechanical Engineering will be considered, but priority will be given to candidates with research interests in (1) autonomous systems, and (2) thermo-fluids as applied to advanced transportation systems.  Areas of interest within autonomous systems include autonomous control of mobile systems and manufacturing platforms, motion planning, sensing, multi-agent systems, long-term autonomy and field-robotics. Areas of interest within thermo-fluids include aspects of zero-emissions transport and associated infrastructure, such as hydrogen power, electric propulsion and/or renewable energy systems, and thermal management of power/control/drive systems, including power electronics and electric machines. Other areas that leverage and integrate with the current research strengths in the school are also of interest.


Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field prior to the start of the appointment.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborate with internal and external groups to build successful interdisciplinary teams with substantial externally-funded research portfolios.

  • Demonstrated leadership roles in the respective areas, and effective instructors of undergraduate and graduate classes in mechanical engineering.

  • Candidates at the Associate Professor level must possess superior leadership skills and experience applicable to leading large, externally-funded research programs.
