Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

The Access Advisor consults with and advises students with disabilities, reviews documentation, develops reasonable accommodations, and oversees delivery of access services to students served. The Access Advisor promotes student self advocacy and self-determination. This position serves as a point of contact with faculty and student service offices such as counseling, advising and career services, TRIO programs, and WSU Global Campus. The Access Advisor serves on departmental, unit, and university committees and assists with developing program procedures. This position will develop and present student informational workshops.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Experience providing academic advising and academic adjustments/accommodations to students with disabilities, OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong computer skills to include working with databases, spreadsheets and word processing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling).

  • One (1) to two (2) years direct experience serving students with disabilities in higher education.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA and other pertinent federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for disabled students.

  • Knowledge of universal design and assistive technologies for people with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of student development and student affairs theory.

  • Sensitivity and competency in working with a diverse population.

  • Ability to effectively work as a member of a team and to work collaboratively with others.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
