Summary of Duties:

The Development Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of fundraising activities to meet the goals of the 4-H Youth Development Program within the College of Agricultural Human and Natural Resource Sciences. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: organizing, implementing, and evaluating special events; stewardship of gifts including acknowledgment letters, specialized endowment and campaign reports; performing public relation responsibilities; soliciting gifts and sponsorship from individuals and/or corporations; administering alumni relation programs; fostering alumni and friends relationships; creating and managing annual gift fundraising programs and providing related support functions; representing WSU to internal and external constituents; and performing other duties as assigned.

Job Duties:

45% | Strategic Engagement & Donor Relations

  • Lead stewardship activities including acknowledgement letters and specialized stewardship pieces.

  • Work with departments to prepare impact reports for scholarship and non-scholarship endowments and manage impact report database and mailings.

  • Lead for various donor and Liaison with National 4-H Council.

  • Liaison with CAHNRS Development Office, CAHNRS Academic Program’s Office and Dean’s Office on strategic engagement.

  • Liaison and assist with the 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees.

  • Support 4-H Director, faculty, and staff with key visits, tours, events and stewardship through event briefings, engagement activities, publications and reporting and meetings.

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate annual and special events that increase knowledge, awareness, interest, involvement, and commitment from the college’s major constituent groups. Assure events adhere to applicable State and University regulations, policies, or guidelines. Assists with budgets, monitoring expenditures and ensuring the receipt and recording of various fees associated with events. Create and maintain special database management for mailing lists and all special event functions as needed.

  • Plan events associated with the Washington State Fair, sporting events and coordinate stewardship for donors such as special passes, etc.

25% | Annual Giving

  • Coordinate the Annual Giving Campaign, working with the 4-H Director, CAHNRS Development Office, and the 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees. Responsible for coordinating information and facts sheets for donors and constituents.

  • Manage direct mail and special fundraising projects: meet with departments/groups regarding direct fundraising mailings or events, work with departments/groups on writing cover letters and specialty brochures and organize mailings, work with departments/groups on special fundraising events. Manage appeal and direct-giving link database.

  • Work with 4-H Director and CAHNRS Development Directors to identify and qualify annual gift prospects, upgrade current annual gift donors, acquire new President’s Associate level donors, and qualify major gift prospects. Develop systematic efforts to identify, solicit, steward, maintain, and upgrade annual giving donors.

15% | Prospect Management

  • Participate in strategy sessions; schedule and coordinate meetings with the top donors and prospects for the CAHNRS Dean and the Senior Director of Development, creating travel itinerary, setting up meeting location and all details for meeting with donors and prospects.

  • Provide clerical support to 4-H Director and 4-H Operations Manager to include gift database coordination and other duties as assigned.

5% | Marketing & Communication

  • Coordinate communications of all gifts with CAHNRS Marketing & Communications Team.

  • Assist CAHNRS Marketing & Communications Team with writing and producing marketing and communication pieces for development and fundraising purposes including proposals, social media, impact report, and letters.

5% | State 4-H Office Assistance

  • Purchase and coordinate supplies for fundraising events.

  • Manage and update CAHNRS Alumni & Development Office and 4-H Youth Development donor database.

5% | Other Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience, which includes six (6) months of full-time experience in marketing, gift solicitation or public contact work with evidence of ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively orally and in writing and organize and execute assignments. A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be willing and able to occasionally travel, evenings and weekends may be required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the 4-H Youth Development Program.

  • Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience in writing proposals.

  • Experience with managing multiple projects and setting priorities.

  • Experience with alumni/donor database applications.

  • Experience with fundraising.

  • Demonstrated experience with donor prospect research.
