Columbus State University Continuing & Professional Education (CPE) is seeking Youth Education Program Specialists (YEPS) for the after-school program Empowered Youth of Columbus State University (EYCSU). This program provides at promise youth with academic and skills enrichment after school and on-site at K12 schools throughout the region. EYCSU currently services 7 school locations and ages ranging from K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-7th, and 9th-12th grades.

Successful candidates will provide direct academic and enrichment support in a safe, student-centered learning environment. The position requires working in collaboration with school site administrators, teachers and staff, along with providing departmental operational support under the general direction of the Program Manager. Communication on a regular basis between parents/guardians, school site, and CPE is a priority for the success of the program. As a representative of CSU and our partners, as well as a role model for these students, Youth Education Program Specialists must regularly exhibit professionalism, maturity, excellent communication, and strong interpersonal skills. 

These are part-time (19hrs/week maximum), funding-contingent positions and will report to the CPE Program Manager.

The selected candidate must be able to work Monday -Thursday (4 schools have this schedule) or Monday - Friday (3 schools have this schedule), 2pm - 6pm, and have the flexibility for special events in the evenings (1-2 per month max.) Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality is essential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Consistently demonstrate patience, compassion, and empathy when dealing with students, guardians, and staff.
  • Facilitate programming with 2-3 other staff on-site at an EYCSU partner school.
  • Work with CPE leadership to implement instructional learning activities for the purpose of improving students' academic, physical and social skills in a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Facilitate the daily operation of the program to ensure the successful administration of policies and procedures in adherence with the program requirements.
  • Establish and maintain frequent and regular contact with all program stakeholders, including parents, teachers and administrators, program staff, and community partners regarding all aspects of the student involvement in the program.
  • Perform various clerical functions as directed by the program manager and in keeping with compliance of the program to include copying, correcting papers, form preparation, attendance tracking, weekly lesson plans, parent contact rosters, site newsletters and phone calls.
  • Coordinate/participate in recruitment/informational meetings, orientations, and parent nights under the supervision of the program manager.
  • Monitor and track attendance, behavior and disciplinary actions, curriculum updates, resources, materials, inventory, and snacks to ensure compliance and the success of the program.
  • Assist with required data collection such as student and parent information, grades, communication logs, evaluations and surveys.
  • Regularly attend scheduled staff meetings and professional development training.
  • Actively participate and facilitate CPE/EYCSU events.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Level I

Minimum qualifications include an Associate¿s degree, or any equivalent combination of experience and education. The selected candidate should have some classroom experience with K-12; must be able to design and implement curriculum, content, lesson plans, and small group activities under the general direction of leadership; must be positive; highly energetic; engage well with children; and possess the ability to work within the somewhat changing and flexible environment of after school programming.

Level II

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Preferred qualification includes a Valid Teacher Certification. The selected candidate should have some classroom experience with K-12; must be able to design and implement curriculum, content, lesson plans, and small group activities; must be positive; highly energetic; engage well with children; and possess the ability to work within the somewhat changing and flexible environment of after school programming.

The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
