Job Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The news and sports operations director is responsible for all on-air operations of the news and sports departments of the station. Duties include: 1. Oversee and assist in recruiting and training of student workers who can gather information, write news and sports stories, and produce a regularly scheduled newscast. 2. Oversee daily newscasts and public affairs interviews. 3. Serve as an on-air news and public affairs host when necessary. 4. Oversee the acquisition of news and sports shows produced by other programming services. 5. Coordinate with other directors to ensure that programs are broadcast as scheduled. 6. Review and make any necessary changes to the Quarterly Reports. 7. Oversee all sportscasts, including content, games, schedules, and beats. 8. Serve as an on-air sports talent when necessary. 9. Teach sports staff how to board op, write stories, report sports stories, and other tasks that may be asked of students. 10. Work with the program director and the webmaster to develop relevant and timely sports-related content for WISU’s website. 11. Be responsible for the development of a diverse sports programming schedule that reflects the university’s mission to provide an educational, noncommercial broadcasting service while also offering a learning opportunity for student staff members. |
