Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of seven stations.
Position Summary
The primary worksite for this position is WUNC Radio’s American Tobacco studios in Durham, NC. The incumbent manages these facilities and serves as point of contact for programming audio needs while overseeing all aspects of audio production and further related activities to ensure high quality productions. This position is the leading subject matter expert on audio production management and plays a substantial role in establishing and maintaining the sound quality of all current and future WUNC programming. Additionally, this position will be coordinating the implementation and deployment of strategic technology and operations initiatives for digital audio devices and platforms as the station more aggressively focuses on making content readily available on internet/web streaming services, streaming devices, smart speakers, smart watches, websites or apps, podcasts, and social media. 
As WUNC’s audio programming and systems specialist, the incumbent works across current and future programming and understands the dynamics required to competently and successfully produce ultra-professional sound results for all in-studio and remote location audio productions and their transmission via radio (analog and digital) and digital media platforms. Key responsibilities include day-to-day recording, mixing and mastering for in-studio audio production; utilizing and co-managing studio software and hardware that is dedicated towards in-studio recordings, editing and mastering; and involvement in studio designs and upgrades, hardware and software acquisitions and upgrades. Further, knowledge of studio-to-studio connectivity is critical as this position will serve as a knowledgeable resource for others as needed in this area. Maintaining a high level of on-air audio quality requires constant dedication, an understanding of hardware and software manipulation used to perfect audio, and a continuing cooperation between the programming and engineering departments. Therefore, it is essential for the incumbent to maintain and elevate their knowledge of rapidly evolving audio hardware and software tools and techniques to provide expert audio technical guidance and training, as well as developing sustainable workflow protocols. 
This position reports to the Director of IT & Engineering and works autonomously with a required flexible work schedule. This includes travel to remote sites and between studios in Durham and Chapel Hill with weekends, occasional holidays and varied hours to support technical operations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems, computer science engineering or a closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in operations/systems work or closely related area; or an 
- Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in operations/systems work or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
- Journey level requires an additional one year of education or experience. 
- Advanced level requires an additional two years of education or experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Essential knowledge of studio equipment, recording equipment, ISDNs, AolP (Wheatstone), digital audio, analog audio and computer based audio editing systems. Expertise in audio systems signal flow and well versed in the concept of Loudness and mixing to different specifications.
* Working knowledge of the systems, operating procedures, and functions of radio production, broadcasting, or multimedia platforms.
* Internet/Web training or experience with multimedia and file transfers.
* Thorough knowledge of standard, popular office automation software.
* Experience with Pro Tools and other Broadcast related software.
* The ability to work a flexible schedule on nights, weekends and occasional holidays as needed.
* Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to communicate complex technical information to people with technical and nontechnical backgrounds.
* Strong decision making, time management and organizational skills. Proven ability to multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively perform their jobs, develop sustainable workflow protocols and follow through on projects to completion.
* Ability to quickly, calmly and creatively troubleshoot complex issues under pressure.
* Strong background in media operations.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Bachelor’s Degree in related field and an additional one year of education or experience.

* Ability to lift equipment up to 50lbs, reaching overhead, bending and twisting with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet short deadlines.
* Ability to travel for remote broadcasts and recordings and between studio locations as necessary.
