Writing and Editing Specialist 1


Department:
FAES | Center for Lake Erie Area Research

Serves as a writer for Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory. Produces e-newsletters, press releases and research-based articles and summaries for a lay audience. Writes, edits and proofs Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory publications including fact sheets, educational displays, and video scripts. Writes for program’s magazine, Twine Line , by researching subjects and translating technical information into lay language. Provides content for Sea Grant websites. Assists in development of research reports for state and regional initiatives and national reporting that serve to (1) educate the public on environmental issues affecting Lake Erie and the Great Lakes and (2) meet grant reporting requirements.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or closely related field. 0 years of experience required, however 0-2 years of experience in creating educational materials and science writing is preferred.


Additional Information:

Applicants must submit a cover letter and three writing samples (which can be a press release, science-based article, factsheet and/or educational display panels).


The pay range for this job profile is $17.74 - $23.63/hour. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
