The Illges Gallery is seeking Gallery Attendants who are responsible for establishing a welcoming atmosphere by greeting members of the public and providing information on the exhibitions and programming, while ensuring the safety and security of the artwork. Gallery Attendants provide excellent customer service that is conducive to repeat visitation, promote a learning and thinking environment, and represents CSU Department of Art as a positive experience to the community.

 

  • Monitor the gallery and acknowledges and/or greets visitors and staff in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Helps create an inclusive and welcoming environment. Embraces the diversity of others.
  • Pro-actively addresses needs of our guests. (Empowered to act)
  • Answers questions courteously and accurately.
  • Focused and engaged while in the galleries when protecting the artworks.
  • Remains alert and ready to help while on duty.
  • Able to provide visitors with at least three key talking points on each exhibition, artwork or artist.
  • Able to discuss at least two works in each gallery with visitors.
  • Keeps current about Department of Art programming and events
  • Able to provide directions and support to guests with disabilities
  • Attentive to safety and security issues.
  • Handles guests/supervisor feedback in a positive way.
  • Is able to work through obstacles or complaints in a productive and meaningful way. (De-escalates challenging guest service situations. Clear understanding of conflict resolution, empathizing and effective listening skills.)
  • Communicates consistently with supervisors.
  • Assist in installation and deinstallation of the exhibitions
  • Assist in workshops and events.
  • Closely monitors the galleries and public spaces to ensure the security & safety of our staff, visitors and collection.
  • Attentive to safety and security issues.
  • Explains gallery guidelines to visitors in a positive and understanding way. Takes pro-active steps to protect the art.
  • Reports any art incidents to the chief guard and documents appropriately.
  • Establishes clear understanding of individual security needs of each exhibition.
  • Is familiar with all emergency procedures.
  • Monitors safety conditions within the museum and communicates safety concerns to supervisors.

Professional demeanor and a strong customer service orientation. Ability to work collaboratively and cohesively with others. Strong work ethic with demonstrated initiative and integrity. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to use Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is recommended.

The Gallery is open to the public Tuesday ¿ Saturday, 11 am ¿ 4 pm

We need someone to fill in this position Saturdays, 11 am ¿ 4 pm. Other times is during the week Tuesday ¿ Thursday, we are flexible during these days and will be able to work around student schedule.
