Description
As part of our vet team, you will be working with one other veterinarian and a veterinary technician in training, while reporting to the Animal Manager and Director to oversee the overall health and welfare of all the animals under LCTW’s care. You and our existing veterinary team will be responsible for the management of our onsite Wildlife Hospital. This includes the upkeep of equipment, supplies and stock checks of all medical sundries, going on medical equipment runs to Vientiane, developing SOPs and working to expand the facilities of our Wildlife Hospital. You will also be responsible for the medical treatment of our 400 resident animals, which largely consists of macaques and crocodiles. When required, you will join our 24/7 Rescue Team on rescue missions, provide emergency care to rescued wildlife and play a key role in the rearing of orphaned animals from the illegal wildlife trade.
Qualifications
Essential • A degree in Veterinary medicine • Fluency in English - both written and spoken • Previous work experience in a clinical setting • Able to handle medical and surgical cases independently • Able to independently carry out general anesthesia in a hospital and field setting • Willingness to supervise and teach students, volunteers, and staff • Comfortable carrying out and interpreting diagnostic imaging (x-ray and ultrasound) • Able to adapt and work with limited resources • Good leadership skills • Good communication skills • Must be comfortable working in a rural setting • Full driving license from your native country • Self–driven, able to work in challenging conditions and culturally sensitive • Able to commit to at least 15 months in this role Desirable • Previous experience of working in a Wildlife Hospital and/or rehabilitation center • Experience with and knowledge of South-east Asian Wildlife • Experience with immobilizing equipment, such as dart guns and blowpipes • Some Lao and/or Thai language skills • An understanding of fundraising for the non-profit wildlife sector • Previous experience of using ZIMS or a similar online records system (SPARKS, ARK, MedARKS)
