Description
Full-time seasonal (September - May) fieldwork position with benefits including: 100% paid medical, TRS retirement, sick and vacation leave. Overtime paid for any hours over 40. Lodging provided. Start and end dates are flexible for the right applicant. Six month term extensions are possible (pending funding) for the right applicant. This position will primarily assist with research measuring effects of broadcast supplemental on northern bobwhite survival, use by non-target species, and on landscape impact. Study will primarily be conducted in the Panhandle of Oklahoma and the Western Rolling Plains of Texas (70-150 miles east of Lubbock), but paid travel to other sites may be required. Duties will include trapping, banding, and telemetry of northern bobwhite, deploying trail cameras, vegetation surveys, possible small mammal trapping, and other duties as assigned. Applicant must be comfortable working in alone in remote locations in variable weather conditions (both hot and cold). Work will require some early mornings and late nights. Overtime will be required at times. Housing will either be in a shared bunk house or a travel trailer. Hiking over variable terrain during less than ideal conditions will be required, as will being able to lift 50 lbs.
Qualifications
Previous field experience and paid telemetry experience is highly desired. ATV/UTV experience 4X4 truck experience. Basic vehicle upkeep skills. (This is not a job for someone who cannot check the oil on a vehicle). Able to navigate using maps. Able to use Microsoft Office products. Ability to use computer based telemetry programs (We are willing to train, but this is not a job for someone who says "I hate computers").
