Description
Intern will be responsible for assisting in general ranch duties including, but not limited to: - Tagging and vaccinating new born fawns in the Whitetail Breeding Pens during June, July, Aug. (Summer/Fall Internship Only) - Vaccinating, antler cutting, and sorting bucks during Aug-Sept. (Summer/Fall Internship Only) - Vaccinating, weaning fawns, and sorting doe for the breeding season from Oct- Nov. (Summer/Fall Internship Only) -Separating Breeder Deer, and CWD Live testing animals For Release. -Maintaining protein feeders, corn feeders, cotton seed, and alfalfa feeders in the pens and pastures. -Equipment and vehicle maintenance. -Maintaining water sources in the field as well as in the breeding facility. - Assisting in guest services, including, but not limited to, hunting. - Mowing/shredding pastures and lodging areas. - Setting up and planting food plots. - General housekeeping in lodging and ranch structures. - General maintenance of wildlife and guest resources. -Individual plant treatment chemical applications. - Assist in the care of injured or ill whitetail and cattle. - Intern will assist and learn about record keeping for multiple state agencies -Intern will also participate in wildlife management practices including, but not limited to: -Predator control including trapping, coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, and hogs. Intern must be able to work in the extreme weather conditions of the South Texas heat and cold, as well as work late nights during the Whitetail working season. The intern will also need to be able to work efficiently on their own and with groups to complete tasks. The intern will need to be able to safely lift 50lbs (a bag of animal feed). The internship is typically 7 Days a week during fawning and, on occasion, during the hunting season. Time off, upon request and approval. Internship is from December 1st to May 30th High preforming interns may have the option to hire on full time after the internship concludes. Intern will have lodging provided on site, as well use of a vehicle for ranch duties.
Qualifications
Qualifications – Students/graduates studying in Wildlife biology, wildlife management, or related field. Preferred experience in ranching and/or farm operations, as well as hunting, but not a requirement as we will train you. Intern candidates must be well groomed, presentable, maintain a valid driver’s license, and have a valid Texas hunting license. Must maintain a positive attitude be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative to work hard and be open to new ideas. Must possess mental alertness, motivation, persistence, maturity, and ability to relate well to others. Intern must be 21 years of age or older.
