Summary Resource Designs Inc. has an immediate opening for a full-time Wildlife/Habitat Management Technician to join our Louisville, Kentucky team. The successful candidate will support our ongoing wildlife damage control programs while implementing wildlife damage control techniques and solutions as directed by the Team Lead. Candidate must have the ability to work well as a professional on a team and independently under Team Lead direction. Relevant work experience or working knowledge of the job tasks is required, skills will be enhanced by on-the-job training. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary based on experience and education; benefits include health insurance, flexible PTO, and paid holidays. Employment with RDI is subject to the successful completion of a background check, drug screen, and vaccinations. The work schedule is full-time, 5 days/week, primarily afternoon/evening, and occasional special projects or weekend work. Duties & Responsibilities • Support the wildlife damage control program at designated sites. • Conduct daily wildlife surveys & identify and quantify birds and wildlife populations. • Conduct habitat management activities using mechanical and chemical treatment methods. • Record field data accurately on Microsoft Windows PC/tablet; make accurate field notes; analyze data in Microsoft Excel worksheets. • Use various field equipment competently (chain saw, weed-eater, hand-held & small power tools, wildlife traps, binoculars/spotting scope, camera).
Qualifications
Qualifications\Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Included in this section are education, experience, skills, licenses, certificates, and registrations. Education & Experience • Experience in wildlife management and habitat management. • Experience related to identifying and counting various species of birds and other wildlife by sight and audible calls, using binoculars and/or spotting scope. • Experience using wildlife damage control methods (propane cannons, pyrotechnic launchers, shotgun, etc.). • Experience identifying and controlling targeted plants using herbicides and mechanical control (sprayer, weed-eater, chain saw, deck mower). • Experience using hand tools, small power tools, and herbicides. • Experience recording field data; basic computer skills using Microsoft Office 365 (Windows, Word, and Excel). • Experience controlling birds and mammals for human health and safety. • Experience driving a 4WD truck on rough dirt roads, UTV/ATV driving a plus. General Requirements • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, and have a valid driver’s license. • Vaccinations (Covid-19, flu, tetanus, rabies, other if needed) required. Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Ability to physically perform multiple duties associated with wildlife management; walk unaided on uneven and steep terrain; for consecutive 8-10-hour days. • Ability to lift and position equipment up to 50 pounds. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position is mostly a field-oriented job that requires work outdoors daily in variable weather conditions, and some equipment maintenance and record-keeping work in an indoor office space. Language / Communication Skills The work environment communicates in English; the candidate must have the ability to read, write, speak, interpret, understand, and explain instructions and information furnished in oral, written, diagram, or schedule formats.
