Description of Work Unit | CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations. Position Summary | A Wildlife Biologist position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands. This position is located at Pohakuloa Training Area on the Big Island in Hawaii. The biologist implements management actions to meet the objectives of the Wildlife program. The biologist supports daily field tasks as assigned and implements protocols to manage native Hawaiian animal species, including endangered birds, bats and insects, manage wildlife habitats, and control small mammalian predators and other threats to sensitive wildlife species. The biologist is responsible for monitoring project success and associated data collection, data management and reporting. The biologist assists with annual monitoring of birds by sight and sound. The biologist may be required to handle native fauna and pest species as part of management. The biologist works with a suite of electronic surveillance equipment to monitor targeted wildlife species. The biologist is supervised by the Wildlife Program Manager and primarily works with other field staff, but also works alone. The position averages up to approximately 75% of time in the field. Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role. In some instances, positions may require staff to be fully in-person. In other instances, hybrid or remote arrangements may be possible. |
