Description
This graduate project is part of an NSF funded proposal to develop an on animal acoustic recording device. The project will entail working on the design and development of an acoustic, GPS tracking collar for large mammals, the deployment and testing of the collar and processing of the acoustic data collected. The work will also involve developing approaches to apply the acoustic collar to ecological and conservation questions, which may include use in anti-poaching, behavioral monitoring or ecological survey. The candidate will be advised on this project by Prof. George Wittemyer of the Dept. of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at Colorado State University.
Qualifications
Preference for students with an MSc in acoustic ecology or engineering. Bachelors degree related to quantitative disciplines, acoustics and/or wildlife ecology with an undergraduate GPA > 3.5. Applicants should be highly motivated with a strong work ethic, well-developed oral and written communication skills, and experience with the handling and processing of acoustic data. Preference will be given to students with advanced data processing skills.
