The Department of Emergency Medicine, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is accepting applications for our faculty position Wilderness Medicine Fellowship.  Competitive candidates will have completed an emergency medicine residency and must be BC/BE in Emergency Medicine.
 
Overview
This Fellowship will develop the emergency physician’s wilderness medicine expertise and create opportunities for meaningful work, specific to austere medicine, that will last a lifetime. Fellows will receive a broad education in wilderness medicine, with training opportunities in a variety of environments – marine, mountain, jungle, desert - around the globe. As an academic fellowship, scholarship is highly encouraged, and the Department of Emergency Medicine offers outstanding research support and faculty mentors. Upon graduation, the fellow will have a strong foundation in wilderness medicine, have scholarly work production, and will meet the qualification standards for recognition as a Wilderness Medicine Society (WMS) Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) with curriculum guided by the goals of fellowship laid out by Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM).
 
Structure
The fellowship begins July 1 and lasts one year. Fellows will divide their time between clinical work in the emergency department, teaching (medical student Wilderness & Survival Medicine Elective, resident training) and practical training in the field.  There will be an opportunity to create a program specific to the fellow’s interest.
