Description
This position will perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. Duties include: count and interview anglers, record data; and measure, weigh, and identify fish caught; compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports. This position will require early morning or late evening work and will require working all weekends and holidays. Must be able to travel to multiple locations. Must be able to work through October 31st. The selected candidate must be able to drive a state vehicle.
Qualifications
- Possess a valid driver's license - Able to accurately identify common Lake Michigan fish to species name - Excellent oral and written communication skills - Able to work independently with limited supervision - Able to approach anglers where they commonly fish - this includes piers and breakwaters, rocky shorelines, open sand, cobble beaches, and along streams and rivers over uneven terrain -Able and willing to work in inclement weather and early morning and late evening hours Preferred: - Completed fisheries courses in college - Previous volunteer or work experience in fisheries
