Description

We are seeking two (2) seasonal field technicians to assist in a radio-telemetry study of white-tailed ptarmigan in Colorado. Two field technicians are needed from 1 June to 1 September, with some flexibility in start and end dates. Duties will include trapping, banding, and radio-tracking white-tailed ptarmigan. Additional duties will include electronic data entry and possibly vegetation surveys. Salary is $1700-2000/month depending on experience. Field work will occur within Rocky Mountain National Park and USFS Mt. Evans Recreation Area. The study sites are high elevation (greater than 11,000 feet) and candidates must be in excellent physical condition. Good hearing and vision are necessary. Work hours may be long or irregular (10 hours or more per day) and some weekend work will be required at the beginning and end of the season. Field vehicles and housing will be provided, but transportation to and from the duty locations is the responsibility of the technicians. Most field equipment will be provided, but field technicians must provide their own field clothing. Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or any wildlife or environmental sciences field or current students enrolled in an undergraduate program in the aforementioned fields are eligible. Candidates with prior field work experience, particularly with radio-telemetry, bird handling, band resighting, or nest monitoring will be especially competitive. At least one previous season of field work is preferred. Candidates should have strong attention to detail, communicate effectively and maintain a positive attitude through long work days and adverse conditions. Candidates must be willing to work in extreme conditions, including high winds and cold. A valid US driver’s license and good driving history are required.
