Wet Lab Manager (part-time) - Department of Psychology - Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences

The research conducted by the Stress, Health, and Development Lab - within the Department of Psychology - examines how stressful experiences influence physical health and disease risk across the lifespan. Current directions of the lab include understanding the pathways through which early experiences of stress contribute to disease risk in adulthood, with a particular focus on the role of the sleep and the immune system.

Job Overview

The Wet Lab Manager – in a part-time role - is responsible for various tasks that critically ensure the daily functioning of the wet lab and that facilitate the implementation of the lab’s research - in duties that include but are not limited:

  • Collecting biological samples, performing assays, and processing, preparing, and analyzing resulting data
  • Assisting in the preparations of grant applications, presentations, and manuscripts involving wet lab procedures and data
  • Directing and/or performing administrative tasks related to the wet lab and its research and for the supervision of volunteer/student research assistants

Work Interactions

Reporting to and closely supervised by the Principal Investigator, the Web Lab Manager directs the work of volunteer/wet lab graduate and undergraduate students; and interacts with research participants from the Georgetown University community and greater DC area, with Psychology Department staff and faculty, and with conference attendees - both in-person and virtually.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Biology, Chemistry or another related field
  • 1 to 2 years research experience in a psychology, biology, or chemistry lab setting
  • Experience in data collection, preparation, management, and analysis of wet lab data
  • High motivation and a detail orientation
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends depending on availability of participants
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage and support a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in managing a wet lab
  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Proficiency with statistical software - e.g., STATA, R
  • Strong writing skills
