Position Summary
The WEKU News Director oversees production and on-air anchoring of radio newscasts and public affairs programs. Takes lead role in planning and assigning coverage for new stories; and covers and prepares news stories for broadcast. Supervises staff reporters, on-call reporters, student interns, station volunteers, and grant-funded news staff assigned to special coverage. 
 
The ND is part of the WEKU Leadership Team and plays a key role in defining and maintaining ethical, editorial, artistic, and technical standards for all news programming. The ND also assists the Director and General Manager with news programming decisions and news operations. This position is also responsible for managing news content distribution on the station website and other platforms. 
Sponsorship Visa sponsorship will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending upon the needs of the unit, available sponsorship budget, and the qualifications of the candidate.

Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree is required. Degree in journalism, communications, or related field is preferred. Graduate Degree is preferred
Minimum Experience
•Three years of radio experience in news reporting and hosting is required. 
•Experience in public radio is preferred. 
•Supervisory experience is preferred.

Job Duty Name Directs the gathering and production of news content on-air and online, edits news material and reporter submissions, and prepares and writes short-form stories, feature stories and interviews according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
Job Duty Name Hosts live or pre-recorded on-air shift; anchors newscasts and special programming as needed.
Job Duty Name Monitors performance of personnel and ensures staff comply with online photo, social media and other station policies.
Job Duty Name Compiles various reports and submits to Director & General Manager including quarterly FCC Issues and Programs, EKU voices and NPR stories.
Job Duty Name Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned.
