Description

 

The role of the Web Operations Engineer 2 is to manage and administer Linux and Windows servers in an enterprise environment along with applications housed on those servers. These applications include streaming media technologies, content management platforms such as Drupal and WordPress, Research Information systems, and Digital Asset Management.
Document, communicate, and support staff on the best practices and recommendations for system health and integrity. Ensure the security of the computing environment by having a clear understanding of threats facing large computing facilities and current methods to thwart them.  
This is a highly technical staff liaison position that will generally not be creating actual web or multimedia content but is an operations-based position which is deeply involved in supporting the backend technology and infrastructure used to do so.
The incumbent for this position has demonstrated being self-motivated and provides proactive, unsolicited, contributions to improve the efficiency and workflow of the Web Operations group and areas that rely upon their services. They are dependable and work independently without oversight. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree, preferably, in Computer Science or relevant technology and at least two (2) years of directly related technical experience. Experience with system maintenance, deployment, best practices, and coding standards. Experience with multimedia streaming technologies (preferably with Panopto, YouTube, and Vimeo). Experience Installing, upgrading, managing and troubleshooting enterprise level applications in Linux and windows environments. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.. 

Required Skills & Abilities:
* System administrator skills, with intermediate knowledge of the Red Hat and Fedora Linux operating systems.
* Intermediate knowledge of MySQL or MariaDB.
* Exhibits introductory knowledge of WordPress and can perform tasks necessary for basic maintenance of WordPress websites (such as code deployments, plugin updates).
* Demonstrated communication skills along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of management and staff.
* Ability to coordinate trouble tickets and ongoing projects with multiple parties to ensure timely completion.
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
* Demonstrated ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple tasks at the same time.
* Intermediate knowledge of databases and networking. 
* Excellent customer service skills, in-person, via phone, and online, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group.
* A working knowledge of version control systems like git and svn.
* May be required to work with technical support staff located in other countries and time zones. 
* Ability to work during non-business hours for support, as needed.

Preferred:
* Will assist with special events (i.e., Commencement, Convocation) for the setup/breakdown of equipment and monitoring the streaming of the event via audio/video feeds.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure with attention to detail.
* Intermediate system security knowledge.

This position requires a background check.
