Web Developer

As a web developer in the Office of University Communications and Marketing you'll be part of the team responsible for planning and executing highly effective and user-friendly websites and digital experiences for academic and administrative units with a focus on marketing initiatives, recruitment, and student experience.
The Web Developer builds and maintains fully functional WCAG 1.1 standards-compliant websites and e-newsletters as a member of the Office of University Communications and Marketing Web team. The Developer works collaboratively with Web project managers, content specialists, designers, vendors, and supervisors to build sites and e-newsletters for strategic Univeristy initiatives, University schools, departments, and administrative units. Site are built in Drupal and WordPress CMS based on design concepts, UX/IA plans and written specifications.
Position requires proficiency developing accessible and mobile-friendly sites in popular open source content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress. This requires the developer to be proficient in building sites using HTML, CSS, MySQL, PHP, LESS/SASS Twig, JavaScript, SSH, Git/GitHub, and popular CSS frameworks.
Developer must accurately translate design mockups into responsive Web constructs optimized for mobile and desktop viewports.
The ideal candidate is a passionate developer with three to five years of experience who enjoys working across multiple aspects of web development, enjoys team collaboration, and is excited by seeing the impact of their work. In additional to strong technical and analytical skill, the successful candidate will be a collaborative team member, an effective communicator, and a motivated problem solver with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
This position requires at least two days onsite per week.
Pre HRCM Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree - At least three years of web development experience, preferably with PHP, Drupal, and/or WordPress - Experience implementing large and complex websites within a content management system environment - Experience in an agency, consulting, shared-services, or other client-service web environment - Experience with responsive web design, front-end build processes, and HTML5 / CSS3 / SASS / JavaScript - Solid understanding of best practices and standards for web development, performance, security, accessibility (WCAG 2.1), and organic search engine optimization - Proficient with code versioning tools such as Github or Bitbucket - Familiar with quality assurance tools and code validation tools.

Job Summary
Contributes to the design, development, coding, testing, debugging, implementation, and maintenance of moderately complex websites and/or software. Documents development and maintenance efforts, assists in integrating assigned work with other system components, and designs and performs functional testing.

- Develop accessible, responsive frontend components from approved UX/IA specifications
- Create and modify Drupal and WordPress themes based on designs
- Implement the back-end of university websites in Drupal and WordPress
- Complete updates, support, and enhancement tasks for existing client websites
- Build content integrations with third-party systems
- Contribute to functional / technical planning
- Participate in quality assurance activities
- Preferred experience with advanced digital analytics implementation, including tag management, custom data layers, event-based tracking, consent management platforms
Physical Effort
Duties are primarily sedentary. Must be able to use a computer at a desk or similar workstation, and travel to on-campus meetings as needed.
