About the Department
 

The Office of College Admissions has a staff of over 40 people, most of whom are Admissions Counselors. They manage marketing to and recruitment of prospective students as well as the admissions process for first year and transfer students into The College, and summer programs for high school students. The Office of College Admissions is a forward-facing department often providing the first impression of UChicago to visitors in-person and virtually as well as telephonically and via email engagement. Of its several schools and departments, The College is the single-largest entity and this office is responsible for bringing to campus a class of students with a diverse set of backgrounds who are prepared to take on rigorous academics while engaging with the University, surrounding neighborhood, and city of Chicago. http://www.collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu


Job Summary
 

The Web Developer position is instrumental in helping maintain and progress all websites and digital offerings under the purview of UChicago’s Office of Enrollment and Student Advancement. This mid-level role will assist in the creation and maintenance of digital outreach materials. Further responsibilities include helping develop new offerings in Jamstack architecture using React.js.

Responsibilities

  • Develops digital assets for outreach of enrollment and student advancement.
  • Conducts routine site maintenance.
  • Selects and prepares imagery.
  • Markup in HTML, XML. 
  • Style in CSS, SASS, LESS or similar.
  • Creates and runs queries using GraphQL.
  • Script in JavaScript, React.js, jQuery, and (occasionally) PHP.
  • Provides input on feasibility, timelines, and sustainability of projects.
  • Investigates, analyzes and resolves day-to-day technical problems using standard procedures.
  • Supports and maintains existing applications. Works with web developers and responds to requests from users.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications


Experience:

  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience working with communications strategy.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Markup experience with HTML, XML.
  • Styling in CSS and familiarity with SASS/LESS.
  • Scripting work in React.js, JavaScript/jQuery.
  • Experience with a web development workflow.
  • Experience in Git repository workflow.
  • Experience with Gatsby and Contentful a huge plus.
