The Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science Computing Facilities Department (SCSCF) is seeking a Web Developer to join our Technical Communication Platforms team.
You will engage in the full spectrum of web development as a pivotal player in crafting our development strategy. Whether it is conceiving designs, meticulously coding backends, navigating Apache web technologies, or ensuring smooth front-end experiences, you will be a key part of our digital transformation.

Your Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Build, test, and maintain Cascade CMS based on our custom framework.
  • Integrate 3rd party tools with current CMS platforms via APIs, forms, and common web frameworks.
  • Apply Agile development methods to analyze feature requests, build user stories, and produce development plans.
  • Ensure CMS user and site visitor experiences are prioritized, focusing on UX/UI principles and responsive design.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain standard processes for development documentation.
  • Address and resolve user issues related to the CMS framework.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-4 years of web development experience, encompassing front-end and back-end.
  • Proficiency in Cascade CMS or a similar academic/enterprise CMS.
  • Expertise in HTML/CSS/vanilla Javascript, PHP, Java and JQuery.
  • Proficiency with basic server administration, shell scripting, and log analysis.
  • Knowledge of DNS, redirection, load balancing, and web proxies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Superb communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and documentation standard processes.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Apache Velocity programming, Perl and/or SQL.
  • CMS migration experience.
  • Automation of back-end infrastructure.
  • Experience using static site generators.
  • Experience with Kerberos, Shibboleth or other Single Sign On solutions.
  • Web/graphic design experience.
  • Familiarity with PCI compliance and payment processing.
