Position Summary and Duties
The Web Designer collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team and other offices to provide design and production support for the university’s web and digital presence. This position will help to establish and maintain the University’s brand on the web and other digital communications.
  • Website design - Design rich, interactive solutions for the web and other digital media from concept to completion while maintaining visual consistency and brand identity. Collaborate with supervisor or senior team member to provide high-level design mock-ups for websites and other online assets. Provide production support for site launches. Maintain awareness of the design landscape with respect to current trends and accessibility best practices. Support team in larger initiatives and understand the creative and marketing objectives for each project assigned. Build basic pages using modern web standards for HTML. Work with creative team to extend print materials and optimize web functionality.
  • Homepage/Site maintenance – Manage design updates for Loyola’s website and other sites of strategic importance to the university. Optimize images for the web by touching up, color correcting, and resizing using Adobe Photoshop or similar tool. Continually expand and enhance design options available through our content management system. Make recommendations that innovate, engage users, and constantly push the brand forward.
  • Provide design support for additional digital systems and media such as email, CRMs, landing pages, and third-party websites. Collaborate with developers to build basic pages and email templates using using modern web standards for HTML.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in design/web/digital design
  • Experience: 1 – 3 years
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work in a team environment under tight deadlines.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental design principles such as typography, layout, grid systems, hierarchy, color and composition.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and XD (or similar interface design/prototype tool)
  • Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
  • Familiarity with standards-based development in HTML.
  • Familiarity with web content management systems and how to design templates for them.
  • Excellent team player
  • Strong design point of view.
  • Experience with image manipulation and optimizing for web.
  • Ability to learn to new technologies as needed.
  • Experience working with user requirements, as well as interpreting usability testing data

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with analaytics a plus
  • Familiarity with web accessibility guidelines such as WCAG and Section 508 a plus
