Job Description

Educational Outreach and Student Services is seeking an enthusiastic, talented and organized Web Content Communications Administrator. As a member of the EOSS Marketing Team, the Web Content Comms Administrator is a flexible and creative yet process-oriented individual who operates at the intersection of content strategy, UX thinking and digital communication. In this position, you will write and edit engaging, student-centered content for web and mobile experiences; articulating site maps which help guide the user experience; creating and maintaining web project documentation; and assisting in creating a long-term strategy for content.

The position will conceptualize and produce original optimized editorial content include news stories, and blog articles including stories for ASU News and blog posts for EOSS’s Student Life news site. Additionally, you will confer with staff members and subject matter experts regarding story ideas, editorial content, changes and revisions; review, proofread and correct webpages, digital marketing materials and news articles to ensure correct grammar, consistency in style, readability and design; and research content to ensure accuracy.

Essential Duties

  • Plans, develops, and produces creative, high-quality copywriting and editorial content for various EOSS audiences (e.g., current and prospective students, families, staff, donors, and the general public) across multiple channels and digital publications (e.g., websites, stories for ASU News, Student Life news site and social media accounts and e-newsletters) ensuring EOSS communication goals and deadlines are achieved 
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and resource to others with regards to web site content and standards. 
  • Researches, creates, edits, and modifies web content in order to develop, implement, and enhance the marketing, public relations, and communication efforts of the department(s); reviews content for timeliness and archives information as appropriate
  • Seeks fresh materials from appropriate sources; enhancing the look, usefulness, consistency, and content of the web site. 
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders to gather information and materials for presentation on the web. This includes news items and special events.
  • Oversees website redesign or other major site modifications as determined by the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Guides and trains internal users in organizing information for the web and how to write effective web content
  • Collaborates with web developers and interaction designers to maintain website design standards and ensure editorial content complies with AP, ASU brand writing style and EOSS requirements
  • Troubleshoots potential marketing and web page problems, including frequent proactive reviews of web pages and links; working collaboratively with the technical staff.
  • Writes and edits website copy, emails, social media, advertising, and other marketing collateral materials to highlight the ASU student experience through storytelling, to drive event attendance, inform constituents of new initiatives and attract donors
  • Serves as a liaison with university web administrators and/or web governance board.
  • Coordinates and verifies prompt posting of web site communications submitted by unit stakeholders
  • Assists in the development of the EOSS Engagement Roundup e-newsletter 
  • Writes clear captions and alt tags to accompany digitally published content.
  • Ensures content is optimized for search engine placements. 
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communication team members and marketing project owners within EOSS to continually hone the brand story and optimize marketing content to further the goals of the Division
  • Actively participates in brainstorming and assists in identifying opportunities and leverages research and EOSS programs and activities to develop editorial and marketing content into multi-touch, multi-channel plans including email, PR, social media, events and more
  • Maintains competitive analysis of both internal and external sites and advises on opportunities for further enhancement and development of web pages.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with Marketing and Communications team members, project managers, creative resources and other outside vendors to accomplish project goals and content needs
  • Recommends process improvements to team members and stakeholders
  • May supervise and coordinate the activities of student workers and/or staff
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field AND three years of communication/marketing experience; OR, Seven years of communications/marketing experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in writing, editing, and other aspects of media publications works.
  • Experience in composing, editing, and proofreading written materials.
  • Experience in planning and implementing communication programs.
  • Experience at writing or editing content for web and mobile experiences, as a UX writer, information architect, content strategist, a plus.
  • Knowledge of marketing practices and principles
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles with respect to aesthetic fundamentals, audience identification, readability, and persuasive principles to apply to communications resulting in high quality, results- driven design
  • Knowledge of the principles, standards, and practices of project management
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods a plus; This includes alternate ways to inform and entertain via written, oral and visual media
  • Experience in problem solving, conflict management and decision making
  • Experience in expressing ideas in a clear and logical manner with strong attention to detail
  • Experience in print journalism, business writing, copy editing, and publication technology.
  • Experience in exercising a high degree of judgment and diplomacy
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with professional organizations, media, university administrators, faculty and staff
