The Computing Services central IT department at CMU partners with our University Communications and Marketing team to provide the Content Management Systems (CMS) that enable the digital "front door" of the university, and we are seeking a Web Applications Quality Assurance Specialist to join our growing Content Management Systems team. The right candidate will have good technical skills and be a great teammate to ensure the consistent delivery of quality solutions to our campus partners.

As a QA Analyst/Engineer with experience in User Acceptance Testing within the CMS Development Group at CMU (Carnegie Mellon University), you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality, usability, and reliability of the central Content Management System (CMS). You will collaborate with a team of developers, project managers, and stakeholders to conduct rigorous testing, identify defects, and drive improvements in the CMS. Your expertise in both quality assurance and user acceptance testing, along with your attention to detail, will contribute to the seamless operation and exceptional user experience of the CMS, supporting CMU's mission of providing exceptional educational resources.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Test Planning and Execution: Collaborate with the CMS team to define test strategies and test plans for new features, enhancements, and bug fixes in the CMS. Execute manual and automated tests to ensure functionality, usability, performance, and security meet defined standards.
  • User Acceptance Testing: Partner with campus partners and stakeholders to plan, execute, and coordinate user acceptance testing. Validate that the CMS meets the needs and expectations of users from various groups and aligns with their requirements.
  • Test Automation: Develop and maintain automated test scripts using industry-standard tools and frameworks. Continuously enhance the test automation suite to improve test coverage and efficiency. Identify opportunities for test automation and champion its implementation within the CMS team.
  • Accessibility Leadership: Maintain a commitment to upholding accessibility standards such as WCAG by conducting regular audits and implementing ongoing improvements, ensuring compatibility with screen readers, optimizing for mobile devices, and addressing diverse user needs.
  • Defect Identification and Management: Investigate and identify software defects, inconsistencies, and user experience issues. Report and track defects using issue tracking systems, working closely with the CMS team to facilitate timely resolution.
  • Test Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive test documentation, including test cases, test scripts, and test data. Ensure that all tests are properly documented and accessible to the team. Assist and train team members on testing.
  • Regression Testing: Plan and perform regression testing to validate system changes and updates while ensuring the stability of existing CMS functionalities.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, project managers, UX designers, and stakeholders. Clearly communicate test results, issues, and recommendations to team members and project stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize testing processes, tools, and methodologies, including UI/UX testing aspects. Proactively propose and implement improvements that enhance the quality, usability, and user experience of the CMS.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science
  • At least 5 years of quality assurance development and engineering experience in relevant projects
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful background check
  • Must be able to travel to on- and off-campus locations as requested; evening and weekend hours may be required. This position will operate on a hybrid work schedule with an in-office presence three days per week at our Pittsburgh, PA campus, and the typical work schedule is Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 5:00pm.
