Job Description

EdPlus at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a motivated, self-directed Web Application Developer(DevSecOps) to join our high-performing Solutions Engineering team. We are looking for a developer with a focus on DevSecOps. Primary responsibility will be managing and coordinating AWS cloud infrastructure and conducting security reviews to support the design and development of serverless architecture following microservice principles within our software engineering team.

Salary Range

$85,000 - $95,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Assists in the management and coordination of AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Assists in implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Designs, develops and supports high quality technology services.
  • Communicates with cross-functional teams about various engineering topics such as detailed design, APIs, etc..
  • Has technical discussion with team members to understand product scope.
  • Maintains technical currency and takes advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Guides effective documentation and communication of engineering processes to both EdPlus engineers, student engineers and contractors.
  • Works on a collaborative, fast-paced team and with other experts across other disciplines.
  • Demonstrates skills with a variety of development methodologies and adapts these to the needs of an organization using Agile processes.
  • Completes projects with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Adheres to software development lifecycle principles and standard methodologies.
  • Contributes to the larger IT community across the University.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related field AND 3 years web and database experience which includes creating and updating table structures and views as well as CSS development; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience creating and managing AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies and permissions following the principle of least privilege.
  • Experience conducting IT security reviews, incorporating industry security standards and vendor documentation as the basis for the review.
  • Knowledge of RESTful web services, API design, microservice architecture, HTTP protocol, JavaScript, JSON and NodeJS.
  • Experience with building decoupled, secure, resilient, serverless applications using cloud native technologies (AWS preferred - e.g. API Gateway, Lambda, Serverless Framework).
  • Knowledge of federated authentication and authorization models including cloud security and access policies is desirable.
  • Knowledge of JWT and OAuth is desirable.
  • Knowledge of cloud methodologies including automation, orchestration, and related tooling.
  • Knowledge of agile/Iterative software development lifecycle, including version control, issue, and project tracking.
  • Evidence of AWS certifications are desirable.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to communicate thoughtfully, using problem-solving skills and build positive working relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Evidence of effective verbal and communication skills.
  • Evidence of a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.

Working Environment

EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
