Job Description

EdPlus at ASU is seeking a motivated, self-directed Web Application Developer to join our high-performing Digital Product Engineering team. This opportunity might be perfect for you if you are passionate about technology and you are energized by design & development of innovative solutions. We are looking for a full-stack developer who is ready to integrate Drupal 9 as a true decoupled CMS; exposing content via JSON:API and GraphQL data formats, and build applications using modern web frameworks, leveraging JAMstack concepts. The utility of Drupal will be confined to using it as a pure content repository without presentation layers. Working closely with stakeholders, units, SEO, QA, and analytics teams to guide the technical landscape of our products to establish standards and integrations across projects in creating efficiencies and scalable solutions. 

The Digital Product Engineering team is responsible for creating solutions and enhancing our current technology stack for a variety of user experience challenges as part of an innovative environment refining how users engage with higher education. Working collaboratively in diverse teams, creates forward-thinking and thoughtful experiences ensuring web products support ASU and EdPlus overall strategy and goals.

Salary Range

$59,450 - $104,550 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Design, develop and support high quality technology services.
  • Ability to communicate with cross-functional teams about various engineering topics such as detailed design, APIs, etc. 
  • Have technical discussion with team members to understand product scope.
  • Maintain technical currency and take advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Develop systems for tracking and improving the design system.
  • Participate, train and coach the team in rapid testing and iterations of the design system.
  • Guide effective documentation and communication of engineering processes to both EdPlus engineers, student engineers and contractors.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots errors and/or problems with web based applications.
  • Working on a collaborative, fast-paced team and with other experts across other disciplines.
  • Demonstrate skills with a variety of development methodologies and ability to adapt these to the needs of an organization using Agile processes.
  • A passion for understanding the user, and a strong communicator of the users perspective in building the best solutions for the most meaningful problems.
  • Ability to complete projects with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Adhere to software development lifecycle principles and standard methodologies.
  • Contribute to the larger IT community across the University
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related. 3 years web and database including creating and updating table structures and views as well as CSS development.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience in Javascript, HTML5, CSS3.
  • Strong experience with at least one major JS library / framework such as VueJS, ReactJS.
  • Evidence of understanding of both front-end and back-end web technologies: HTTP(S), XML, JSON, JSONP, AJAX, REST APIs and GraphQL.
  • Evidence of knowledge of NodeJS and its ecosystem, content management systems (Drupal, WordPress), and web services.
  • Experience with static site generators (eg. Gridsome, NuxtJS, Gatsby).
  • Experience with responsive design frameworks such as bootstrap or material design.
  • Experience with AWS Tooling (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Dynamodb, Appsync) and serverless application frameworks
  • Evidence of ability to communicate thoughtfully, using problem-solving skills and build positive working relationships with cross-functional teams. 
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and communication skills

Working Environment

EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
