Job Description:

Position Purpose

The Water Treatment Technician performs tests and maintains proper chemical level and heating systems, steam generators and AC water towers.

This position is considered essential.  Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift.

Job Qualifications and Competencies

  • High School diploma/GED;

  • Some academic background in chemistry or training in the practical application of chemicals is preferred

  • Two years' experience in chemical water treatment and actual boiler operation

  • Boiler Operator's License for the City of Providence

  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license

  • Must maintain required licenses as a condition of employment

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily

  • A thorough knowledge of closed heating systems, steam generator boilers and medium temperature and hot water stations, and A/C water towers

  • Background in mechanical injection systems

  • Must be able to follow standard procedures, read and understand blueprints

  • Ability to use electronic devices such as iPhone, iPad, and other job related software applications

  • Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment

Additional physical demands and working conditions:

  • Must have the physical ability to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs for the duration of the work period

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation. Ability to perform physical activities such as use of arms, legs, standing for long periods of time, kneeling, bending, color identification and handling materials among others.

  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and staging heights up to 100 feet

  • Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds

  • May be required to have the ability to work in areas needing a respirator

  • Position is subject to pre-employment screenings

  • This position is classified as on-site
