Description
Woodlands Conservancy is a non-profit land trust organization protecting and restoring 840 acres of forested wetlands in the Greater New Orleans area. We are seeking a part-time Volunteer Coordinator to engage community volunteers in forest restoration activities within 840-acres of forested wetlands within the Greater New Orleans area. This is part of an ongoing effort to reduce non-native invasive vegetation and reforest with native seedlings and trees. Volunteer Work Days often occur on weekends and thus the working schedule will be flexible to include weekend days as needed. The Volunteer Coordinator will market, organize and implement field activities with community members. Volunteer activities will include planting trees and seedlings, maintaining planting plots and utilizing a GPS to record planted tree locations. The VC will conduct safety sessions and ensure that all participants and attendees at events sign-in upon arrival. The VC will assist in implementing community outreach events and will collect and summarize volunteer and outreach event attendee data. The work will occur within a 190-acre forested wetland in Orleans parish and a 649-acre forested wetland in Plaquemines Parish. The position pays $15/hour. Work is anticipated to begin December 01, 2021 and end May 30, 2023.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be able to lift 30 lbs. Preference will be given to individuals with experience in designing and implementing community engagement activities, designing and implementing social media strategies to market volunteer work days and outreach activities. Required skills and attributes: College graduate or High School graduate with at least two years of applicable experience. Must possess strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, self-motivated, attention to detail, punctual, and accountable. Must have Interest in ecosystem restoration and natural areas management. The Volunteer Coordinator can anticipate days in the field working in adverse conditions (heat, bugs, etc.).
