Your Role: 

We are in search of a dynamic and visionary Visual Communications Specialist, someone who is deeply passionate about visual storytelling and who possesses a profound talent for conveying powerful narratives through video, photography and motion graphics. As an integral member of the OVPR Communications Team, you will play a pivotal role in championing the transformative impact of research by producing vibrant, engaging content that captures the imagination and strikes a chord across diverse audiences.

Designing and executing original visual content that portrays the richness and diversity of U-M's research initiatives and objectives. 

Working closely with numerous stakeholders, faculty and teams to produce strategic and meaningful visual communication materials that resonate with a range of viewers -  from academic peers to global citizens.

Engaging with various OVPR units to spotlight pioneering research programs and services, significantly raising their profile and magnifying public engagement and understanding. 

Reporting directly to the Director of Digital Marketing and Communication, you will be instrumental in expanding the university's visual narrative, aligning it with U-M's esteemed goals and mission. 

Ensuring all visual content, including photos and videos, is expertly composed, captured and edited, culminating in high-caliber deliverables ready for various platforms and mediums. 

Managing and maintaining digital archives with diligence, guaranteeing easy access and efficient retrieval of the University's visual assets.

Bachelor's degree 

Minimum three years of work experience in visual storytelling utilizing video production, photography and motion graphics. 

A robust portfolio demonstrating expertise in photography, videography and motion graphics design. 

Proficient at visualizing concepts and translating them into an innovative range of dynamic visual materials suitable for multiple channels. 

Adept at all stages of production, including conceptualization, storyboarding, shooting and advanced post-production techniques. 

Familiarity with digital asset management and capable of efficiently cataloging, archiving and ensuring the security of digital collections. 

Ability to collaboratively and constructively work with a diverse team including creative directors, brand strategists, web developers, news and social media experts, and more. 

Eagerness to actively participate in team, divisional and university wide meetings, offering professional insights and furthering the mission's success.
