Position Summary | The Indiana University Libraries invites applications for a Teaching Innovation Librarian as a part of the IU Libraries third cohort of the Diversity Residency Program. Designed for a new or early-career individual, this three-year, non-renewable position provides opportunities for the incumbent to apply professional knowledge and skills, develop a professional network, and gain valuable experience toward career goals and opportunities in academic librarianship. As a member of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Diversity Alliance (https://www.ala.org/acrl/issues/diversityalliance ), the IU Libraries’ Diversity Residents are part of a cohort established by ACRL Diversity Alliance member libraries. The purpose of the resident program is to provide underrepresented racial and ethnic candidates with professional positions, engage them in professional learning and service at Indiana University, and support their success in academic librarianship. The Diversity Resident Program is a part of the IU Libraries’ commitment to cultivating diversity within the profession and fostering an appreciation of diversity. The Resident will be supported by the Residency Planning & Support Committee, a group of library colleagues who provide support, mentoring, feedback, and career development guidance. The Resident will actively participate in committees, councils, and task forces, will have opportunities to participate in relevant national and regional professional organizations, and have support to participate in scholarship and service activities within the university and profession. The Teaching Innovation Librarian, Diversity Resident will work in the Lilly Library, the rare book and manuscript library of Indiana University, and develop sustainable, inclusive, and innovative teaching and outreach programs. The Lilly Library holds over 450,000 rare books and over 8.5 million manuscripts with collection strengths including, but not limited to: British and American literature and history; global literature and history; medieval manuscripts and early printed books; science and medicine; children’s literature; literary archives; Latin American history; film and television; and artists’ books. This position will be responsible for exploring new instructional opportunities and services for the Lilly Library and for developing and piloting new teaching and outreach programs. Reporting to the Head of the Teaching and Research Department, this position will work in collaboration with Teaching and Research Department colleagues. Possible projects include but are not limited to: piloting an outreach program to use the Library’s new Teaching Collection on and off campus; working with the Curator of Modern Books to continue building the Teaching Collection; researching and surveying online learning resources and modules at other special collections libraries; and piloting online modules for teaching book history and/or primary source literacy with Lilly Library collections.
