Position Summary

Summary: The Department of Biology at UNC-Chapel Hill will hire a Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor to teach one section of BIOL 252 Fundamentals of Human Anatomy & Physiology, a sophomore/junior level core course for approximately 250 Pre-health and Biology majors. This course meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:15am-12:05pm. Excellent candidates will have experience with using modern teaching methods including the use of technology for online and in-class formative assessments. The instructor will be expected to use a textbook and learning platform used by others in the department. Relevant teaching experience and subject matter expertise are required. Responsibilities:
• Prepare a syllabus, outlining topics and reading assignments for each class period
• Prepare and present student-centered lectures for each class
• Prepare 4 exams and provide guidance to TAs about grading
• Post class materials (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, synopsis of main points, assignments) on course management system before each class or recitation
• Hold at least four office hours each week
• Hold a 1 hour review or Q&A session before each exam
• Respond promptly to email messages from students

Education Requirements

Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Qualifications and Experience

Expertise in human or mammalian physiology, least one year of college teaching experience; experience with student-centered teaching in large courses is highly preferred.
