The Visiting Senior Research Specialist will assist the project PI in the analysis of public health data related to substance use and substance use disorders (SUD), particularly cannabis and opioid use disorders. The overall goal of the project is to assess the effects – both positive and negative – of the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. Responsibilities will include organizing and analyzing multiple, large, complex data sets containing epidemiological information on the prevalence and incidence of substance use and misuse, SUDs and associated consequences (e.g., hospitalizations, poisonings, fatalities, DUIs, etc.). The position will assist with data acquisition from multiple, diverse state and federal sources to build an indicator library that is regularly updated and analyzed throughout the course of the project. They will also assist in statistical analysis and report writing to provide findings to the Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery as well as the Illinois Health Advisory Council that is providing project oversight. The position requires demonstrated significant statistical and analytic skills, particularly with regards to data management and correctly analyzing complex survey data.
