The Duke Center for International Development (DCID), a unit within Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy advances international development policy and practice through interdisciplinary approaches to post-graduate education, mid-career training, international advising and research. Its faculty and staff continuously strive to create programs that meet the specific needs of each client and student. At DCID, faculty, staff, and students are driven by a shared vision: development that promotes peace and prosperity for all people.


DCID offers a Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) graduate degree; intensive international Executive Education programs for senior development managers; and short- and long-term advising in public finance and development management. DCID also hosts one of six centers worldwide - the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center and maintains close collaborations with the World Bank, USAID and other international and bilateral agencies as well as with consulting firms, foundations, universities, NGOs, and national governments. 
Today, DCID is represented around the world by an alumni base of over 6,000 individuals from more than 130 countries. DCID’s teaching, advising and training initiatives are contributing in a real and positive way to sustainable development in countries around the world.

The Duke Center for International Development invites applications for a Visiting Research Scholar position in one or more of the following areas: energy and sustainable development, environmental security, and climate change policy .  This is a zero-salary position at this point, pending future research and teaching possibilities and needs. This is a non-regular-rank, non-tenure-track faculty position for one year with the option for renewal. Candidates must have a post-baccalaureate degree or experience/expertise commensurate with an advanced degree.  Preferred candidates will have a PhD and a strong record of research and policy engagement.


The Visiting Research Scholar will: 

  • Engage in research, collaborate with colleagues, and participate in other activities of the center 
  • Partner on joint research, projects, and programs as the scholar’s time permits 
  • Serve as a resource to colleagues and graduate students as the scholar’s time permits 
  • Use Duke University email address for Duke related correspondence 
  • Follow Duke University parking regulations 
  • Abide by Duke professional standards, including Duke's Harassment Policies and the Consensual Relationship Policy
  • Protect the confidentiality, privacy, and security of student, staff, business, and other confidential, sensitive, electronic or proprietary information of Duke University from any source and in any form (spoken, paper, electronic, etc.) that is created, accessed, used, or disclosed by/to you
