Position Summary:


A visiting researcher position is available within the Department of Plant Biology in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey located in New Brunswick, NJ. The primary purpose of the Visiting Research Scholar position is to work under the direction of the principal investigator. The visiting researcher will possess a Ph.D. and have significant experience with plant endophytes. The visiting researcher will work in the area of testing for nitrogen fixation in tissues and cells of landrace corn vs conventional corn. The current focus of the lab is to gain a better understanding of how microbes in landrace corn provide nutrients to corn plants.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
· Works under the direction of the principal investigator.
· Perform functional and mechanistic studies and experiments that are proposed with specific focus on the function of bacteria within corn cells.
· Conduct confocal microscopy work to track bacteria within corn cells and tissues.
· Develop new techniques to measure nitrogen fixed within plant cells.
· Must possess effective oral and written communication skills and ability to publish scientific research papers/articles and written reports and oral presentations of research experiments.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:


PhD. in plant biology or other related discipline with significant experience with plant endophytes.
