The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a Visiting Research Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to employ an enthusiastic and experienced registered nurse or medical doctor to join our team as a Visiting Research Specialist. This position will work with a current study investigating why some types of bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) increase the risk for alcohol misuse and whether some low-calorie sweeteners affect blood sugar control. There is also hope for this position to work with future funded projects.
Job Summary
The Visiting Research Specialist, under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), ensures the integrity and quality of clinical trials are maintained and conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct research by being primarily responsible for the accurate completion of research visits that include the insertion of peripheral IV catheters, drawing blood samples in research protocols that require frequent sampling and performing oral glucose tolerance tests, perform medical tests, including, but not limited to, vital signs.
  • Research Coordination and Support by participating in recruitment and selection of study participants by interviewing and documenting medical history to determine compliance with eligibility requirements; will assist with report preparation for regulatory bodies.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Medical degree or valid registered nurse license from the State of Illinois
    • CPR Certification.
    • Two years of recent clinical research experience in a laboratory or two years of recent clinical nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or similar healthcare setting.

  • Must be detail-oriented and meticulous in all aspects of work.
    Appointment Information
    This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. This position may become permanent at a later date. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. The minimum salary is $45,500. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
