Position Summary
As part of The Center for Urban Economic Development (CUED), the Research Initiatives Manager, SERPLP Project will work on the Solidarity Economy Research, Policy & Law Project (SERPLP) project. This project will serve as the research 'Hub' for the Chicago's Community Wealth Building (CWB) Initiative. Major Hub activities include: convenining and coordinating, research and reporting, education and training. The Research Initiatives Manager, SERPLP Project will focus on Hub partnerships, both current and new and managing all aspects of the CWB ecosystem. The goal of this two-year grant-funded project is to make advances as it pertains to racial justice, solidarity economies, and economic democracy through trans-disciplinary research, critical praxis, and community alliances.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Managing outreach with Chicago's CWB partners to learn about their programs, services, and needs that the Hub might support.
  • Supporting the mapping of Chicago's CWB ecosystem through interviews and online research.
  • Overseeing communication with ecosystem partners.
  • Convening ecosystem players for regular Working Groups meetings, including support meeting preparation, facilitation, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Establishing relationships with national partners and connecting them to Chicago CWB ecosystem players.
  • Promoting visibility of ecosystem players and broader awareness of workplace democracy and shared ownership models.
  • Disseminating educational and technical resources among ecosystem players in Chicago.
  • Coalescing community knowledge and experience to best assess the needs of the ecosystem across all City of Chicago CWB pillars.
  • The position may perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Qualifications:
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • 5 years post-graduate professional experience
    • Must be self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
    • Must be collaborative and able to work in a team environment.
    • Must be a strong communicator with good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen to others, offer and accept constructive feedback, deflate tension and problem-solve when issues arise.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, and excellent capacity to document and synthesize meetings.
    • Must be comfortable working with a diverse group of audiences, including but not limited to BIPOC, queer, limited English speakers, and others.
    • Must be well-organized and detail oriented.
    • Must be comfortable learning new technologies and software, and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Google Suite, and scheduling software.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Spanish proficiency.
    Experience with Chicago-based community organizing, and movement work.
    Design and data visualization skills.
