Required Qualifications

Education: MD (without residency experience)

Job Duties Outlined

  • Complete training to become an approved research coordinator including but not limited to: IRB training.

  • Initiate an investigator initiated clinical study including IRB submission, data collection, data analysis, manuscript write up, and journal submission.

  • Prepare and submit case studies.

  • Participate in ongoing clinical research projects (including patient screening and recruitment, informed consent, chart review, data submission, etc.).

  • Provide written and verbal reports to the Principal Investigator and Project Manager, as required.

  • Under the direction of the principal investigator, recruit and educate potential patients for and evaluate potential patient eligibility for studies.

  • Participate in quality assurance activities by reviewing clinical data in medical record charts, assessing pharmacy compliance with protocol criteria, and reviewing study documentation to ensure compliance.

  • Work closely with the Research Institute and Human Research Protection Program and have a working knowledge of KUMC policies and procedures.

  • Reviews and assists with the assessment of research protocols.

  • Coordinate study participant visit activities including scheduling procedures, communicating with subjects, and completing necessary basic study procedures.

  • Attend weekly educational sessions with internal medicine residents and GI fellows (Grand Rounds or Journal Club) and monthly sessions required by the KUMC Office of International Programs.

  • As appropriate, review publication-ready manuscripts for the Kansas Journal of Medicine to learn critical review.

Clinical Experience

  • Assigned clinical site.

Inpatient Internal Medicine - Observership

  • Complete a two-week internal medicine inpatient observership which includes rounding with the medical team and shadow interns and residents under the supervision of the KU hospitalist team Attending at Ascension Via Christi Hospital or Wesley Medical Center.

  • Give oral presentations and talks as advised.

  • Attend morning teaching and noon conferences with residents.

CCR Meetings & Research Activities

  • Attend weekly CCR meetings to discuss any current clinical trials if applicable to research involvement as requested.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
